OrthoGlide® Medial Knee Implant System
The OrthoGlide Medial Knee Implant is a minimally invasive surgical alternative for some patients with osteoarthritis of the knee.
When conservative treatment fails for a patient, a surgical procedure is frequently recommended. The OrthoGlide is designed to replace much of the function of the cartilage that has been lost due to osteoarthritis in the medial (inner) part of the knee. It is a contoured device that is positioned between the two bones of the knee joint through a small incision in the knee. There are no bone cuts, no screws, and no cement required; the unique geometry of the device keeps it in place.
The OrthoGlide implant has a particular advantage for the patient who is too young or too active for a total knee replacement. It can postpone the time when a total knee replacement may become necessary, such as can happen if the osteoarthritis progresses. Since no bone cuts are made for the OrthoGlide, future surgical options are still available.
